When Elina and Lauritz arrive at their divorced father’s funeral, the atmosphere is already tense. Things become complicated when Elina discovers that – in opposition to their father’s wish to have his ashes scattered at sea – his new family has instead found him a gravesite. She resolves to steal her father’s ashes to give him the farewell he has always wanted. An untraditional heist comedy with heart, Ash Across the Sea tackles the theme of love, set against a backdrop of loss. While the film may be centered around a funeral, it is really a story about family and all the myriad strange and often awkward forms it takes.
